IN-DEPTH INFORMATION ABOUT THE COLLECTION

History:
Atlantic City's first high school was built in 1895 at Illinois and Atlantic Avenues. The city quickly outgrew this building, and a new high school was built in 1901 at Ohio and Pacific Avenues. Again, the city expanded its educational facilities, building a third, new high school at Albany and Atlantic Avenues. This building was opened on September 17, 1923 with an enrollment of more than 2,000 students. The building had a 1,000 seat auditorium, a massive pipe organ and a much revered and iconic clock tower. The building was demolished. On November 14, 1994, the fourth and newest incarnation of Atlantic City High School opened its doors to students and faculty. Atlantic City’s new high school, located at 1400 North Albany Avenue, serves approximately 2,500 students from Atlantic City, Brigantine, Longport, Margate, and Ventnor.  The facilities inside the new 450,000 square foot building include a 750-seat theater, 50,000-volume library, a TV and radio station, a 48-seat distance learning lab, science research lab and greenhouse, graphics and communication lab, multiple computer labs, and athletic fields.
