Library closed temporarily due to COVID-19 case

Both Atlantic City Free Public Library locations will be closed until Tuesday, Nov. 24, as a result of a contract worker testing positive for COVID-19.

Prior to closing, the library limited the amount of time a visitor was allowed inside the facilities. This time-limit policy, along with many other safety measures put into place by the library, limited a person’s possible exposure to COVID-19. Still, those patrons who entered the library recently are advised to keep an eye on potential symptoms and consider seeking medical care or testing. Staff members have been encouraged to self-quarantine and get tested for coronavirus especially if they exhibit any symptoms.

The library will conduct extensive cleaning and thorough sanitation of both locations during the closure.

While the library facilities are closed, most virtual programs will be held as scheduled. Library members with Internet access will be able to borrow items from the hoopla and Overdrive digital collections, plus use the many premium eResources that are available through the library’s website.

The library book drops will remain closed during this time. Overdue fines will not accrue during the closure. The public is asked to hold on to their materials until the library reopens.

Richmond Branch Library will reopen to the public Nov. 24. Main Library will resume its Curbside Pickup Service on Nov. 24 before reopening its doors Nov. 25.

“Our top priority is the safety of the public and our staff,” Library Director Robert Rynkiewicz said. “We will continue to take the necessary steps to mitigate the spread COVID-19.”
