****The absolute best thing you can do for yourself, no matter which test you’re taking, is get familiar with Learning Express Library, an awesome online resource provided by the library for free. You can either access it at the library, or you can get it at home with your library card. Learning Express Library has practice tests and study guides for the SAT, ACT, GED, and AP tests along with tons of professional tests for fields like cosmetology, firefighting, electrician’s licensing, and much much more. If you do nothing else, check this out! We are always happy to help you figure out how to access and use it.****

 

SAT/ACT

Stuff to help you practice:

  • Our library occasionally hosts practice SAT tests.┬áKeep an eye on our event calendar.
  • We have TONS of books and DVDs to help you prepare for the SAT & ACT. See our complete list of offerings: SAT materials || ACT materials
  • Access Learning Express Library either from home with your library card or from one of our library computers. They have tons of practice tests, essay questions, and prep guides for you to make use of. Click the link, sign in with your library card number if you’re at home, then choose ‘College Prep’. You’ll need to make a username and password if you’re a new user. This is a really really great resource – please don’t hesitate to call, e-mail, or ask in person if you’re having trouble!
  • Khan Academy has free exercises and practice tests to help you prepare for the new SAT.

Test scores and college:

  • What is a good SAT/ACT Score? – This article tells you what the average scores are and what percentage of people score in what ranges. A good way to see where you stand. This other article will show you some average SAT/ACT scores for a few different colleges.

Did you know that there are lots of high quality colleges that do not have high standardized testing requirement, or do not look at SAT/ACT scores at all? Check out these articles to learn more about SAT scores and college admissions:

  • 20 Great Colleges for Students with Low SAT Scores – This is a list of highly selective, well-known and respected colleges that have either very low requirements for SAT scores or are “test optional”, meaning you don’t have to report your scores at all if you don’t want to. Just because they don’t want your scores doesn’t mean that these schools won’t be filled with highly talented students and professors and have a great learning environment and options. In fact, most of these schools are known for being very progressive. Some even promise that all students will graduate debt-free, meaning no student loans!
